Chhattisgarh Governments Tribal Repression Continues....

Vanvasi Chetna Ashram, Dantewada gets eviction order

Dear Friends,

Himanshu Kumar of Vanvasi Chetna Ashram, Kawalnar, Dantewada has been ordered to vacate his ashram premises by today. The order by Tahsildar,Dantewada is dated 13/7/2007 which was delivered to his ashram today(in his absense) which says "the illegal occupation should be vacated within a week"( which means today).

According to Himanshu Kumar the Ashram land was given to VCA by a Kawalnar Gram Sabha resolution in 1994. At that time the land was shown as agriculture land in Govt records.Later the land was changed in Govt records to forest land which VCA has challenged after the first notice was served in February 2007.

Himanshu Kumar and VCA is situated in Kawalnar since last 15 years andis working with tribals of Dantewada mainly in the field of health and education. VCA activists have also been at the forefront of bringing human rights violations taking place in Dantewada to the world notice.

VCA activists took out a peace rally last year in Dantewada which wasalso addressed by famous Gandhian leader Nirmala Deshpande. More than 10,000 tribals took part in the rally.VCA closely works with many national and international NGOs includingUnicef.

VCA has been the nodal agency for the Govt of Chhattisgarh' s health program called "Mitanin" If you can help VCA in anyway please contact them at 07856 250176 or wrtie to them at himvca@rediffmail. com
