Indigenous people key to tackle climate change.....


Indigenous peoples’ traditional livelihoods and ecological knowledge can significantly contribute to design and implement suitable and sustainable measures for tackling climate change issue.

According to the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, indigenous people have an important role to play in mitigating climate change, given their knowledge and experience with impacts of the phenomenon.

The forum, a subsidiary of the UN Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc), recommended that the international community should take serious measures to mitigate climate change, as the survival of the traditional ways of life of indigenous peoples depended in large part on the success of those efforts.
