Journalist Remains Under Arrest in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar District.....

Raipur, 2 May 2008:


Independent journalist Sai Reddy has spent nearly two months in police custody after his arrest on March 1, and police allegations of supplying food and explosives to the Naxalite rebels in the troubled province of Chhattisgarh have yet to be backed with any sort of evidence.


Reddy, whose twenty-four years of reporting on the ongoing Naxalite rebellion has won him the enmity of both sides, maintains his innocence and has told FFDA that he believes his arrest is connected to a recent encounter between his wife and members of the Salwa Judum, an anti-Naxalite militia that has been implicated in numerous human rights abuses and linked to the Chhattisgarh state government.
